Amid the pandemic, individuals have tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) inside of the White House. A memo was released detailing about the precautionary measures to all the White House staff. Certain areas of the premises will be subjected to “High Touch Point Cleaning” and heightened levels of cleaning.
What this means is cleaning the high traffic areas such as desks, keyboards, doorknobs, and 10 feet high on walls. The CDC recommends cleaning these high touch point areas on a daily basis. There are procedures that should be follow when actually disinfecting. Please remember to follow the label of the product used. Check the EPA Approved List N for products that are effective against enveloped viruses.
When using an EPA approved product on List N, follow these 6 steps for safe and effective use of disinfectants:
- Read the product label and make sure it is on List N.
- Read the directions and do not mix chemicals. Check the type of surfaces the disinfectant will be effective on.
- Pre-clean the surfaces with soap and water to make sure it is not visibly dirty. Viruses and bacteria can hide under dirt. Do a thorough wipe down.
- Follow the contact time required for the disinfectant to be effective. Most products will have a dwell time of 5-10 minutes. Follow the label to be certain.
- Wear protective equipment like gloves and wash your hands thoroughly.
- Put away the chemicals and dispose of any bio-waste properly.
Before the outbreak, members of the White House were testing for temperatures and screenings. Anyone who had symptoms of COVID-19 were denied entry to the White House.
The same should apply to any work places that have a confirmed case of COVID-19 cleaning. The CDC has released guides for reopening up businesses as California begins to start up.
