Brush Fire Safety Tips
Frank:
Hey, guys. Frank here with Allied Restoration. Once again, I’m here with Joe Torres, an active firefighter in the Los Angeles area and the owner of All Risk Shield. What has come to my attention that you see on the news all the time is people during brush fires … and when it comes to an extreme situation where hillsides are going up, and people want to protect their homes, a lot of times these people are running back during mandatory evacuations and trying their hardest to help save what they can with their house. But they don’t have the necessary resources to do it, putting themselves in danger.
Joe:
That’s correct, Frank. During the evacuation process, you want to adhere to the law. If it’s a mandatory evacuation, you want to evacuate. If it’s a voluntary evacuation, you want to make sure you have all your stuff ready to go.
Frank:
I think that’s so important. A lot of times, especially if you live in a high fire danger area, to have everything ready-to-go in these emergencies is crucial on timing. Because a lot of times you have seconds, if that, to get out of your property and get down to a safe area.
Joe:
By having everything ready-to-go, by adhering to the mandatory evacuations that are set in place, you’re making way for the fire crews, the first responders to get to those designated areas in order to facilitate a fire attack.
Frank:
A lot of times when the fire crews come in, that is true. There are people still blocking the path for them to get in because they’re staying back, but they also use the water resources that are available by trying to turn on every hose down the street. Doesn’t that take the pressure away?
Joe:
Yes. By opening multiple faucets and multiple discharges on properties, you’re taking away from the pressure that could be used for firefighting efforts.
Frank:
Remember, guys, if you live in a high fire risk area, there’s nothing more important than saving yourself and your loved ones. There’s no point in staying back trying to protect something that can be covered by insurance. And remember, material items can be replaced. Your life, your loved one’s life cannot. If you need to evacuate, get out, stay safe, and remember your life matters. Okay? Take care guys. See you next time.
